The walk on the Berici Hills in the Mills Valley is a pleasant and particularly interesting route, a real precious gem from a naturalistic and historical point of view.
It takes place totally immersed between the gentle mountain ridges and the large rocky walls of the Berici Hills, located south of the wonderful historic center of Vicenza. They are characterized by a rather harmonious and relaxed morphology, completely different from the bizarre taper of the Euganean Hills in the province of Padova.
The climate is particularly pleasant, compared to that of the surrounding plain to the point that, in the southern part of the hills, there is a vegetation typical of the Mediterranean areas. A feature that, together with the abundance of limestone, that is a good building stone, have made this area one of the most privileged places in the Veneto region since prehistoric times.
The heart of this magical place is Lake Fimon, one of the most interesting naturalistic environments, thanks to its great landscape value, we find an important habitat with the presence of flora and fauna typical of wetlands.
A truly unique natural area that continues to amaze us, with archaeological finds dating back to the Neolithic, the Copper Age and the Bronze Age.
The walk on the Berici Hills in the Mills Valley starts from the parking lot of Lake Fimon, a few steps from its calm waters, we find information signs with some indicated routes. In this article we present Route Number 4, the Green Route that crosses the Lapio plateau, passes through the naturalistic oasis of the Mills valley, passes through the town of Fimon and the hamlet of Covolo, and then returns to Lake Fimon.
The area is very popular on spring and summer Sunday afternoons, frequented by runners, bikers, fishermen, photographers and families from Vicenza. We recommend a calm pace, to enjoy the wonderful landscape that will surround you.
