In this article we treat Veneto Extra Virgin Olive Oil, a product of the highest quality that still retains the right traditions today.
Veneto extra virgin olive oil has a very ancient tradition, and thanks to the favorable climate of our hills, which has lasted for centuries, it is particularly appreciated and praised by many admirers. When it comes to oil, thought often runs towards a Mediterranean plant, inserted in landscapes of Greece, Spain or southern Italy.
However, also in the Veneto region there are fortunate areas where we find the ideal climatic conditions for the cultivation of the olive tree. Its origin is presumed both from Asia Minor and Syria, because in these southern coast areas, the olive tree has formed real green forests. Hence the Greeks, who discovered its properties and began to cultivate it.
Olive growing has been promoted in this area by the Republic of Venice since the 16th century, when the Serenissima promoted the cultivation of the olive tree in the lands of the Euganean Hills and Lake Garda, after abandoning maritime trade fearing the interference of the powers competitors, first of all Genoa, another major producer.
The oil production in Veneto thanks to its long tradition and the high quality of its product can boast two PDOs (Protected Designation of Origin) that of Garda and that of Veneto. The latter is divided into three areas, "Veneto Valpolicella" north of Verona, "Veneto Euganei-Berici" south of Padova and Vicenza and "Veneto del Grappa" in the area between Bassano del Grappa and Asolo.
The Garda olive trees are located between Bardolino and Malcesine where the indigenous Casaliva is used, which gives a green oil and a light fruity flavor, in Valpolicella an autochthonous variety is used, the Grignano, with a yellow color and a light fruity flavor , between the Euganean-Berici Hills the Leccino and the Rasara prevail, which has a golden green color and a fruity flavor that varies in intensity, instead in the Grappa area we find the Frantoio and the Leccino, which confer a golden green color and a flavor fruity. However, these are small productions compared to national ones, but which over time are taking the right revenge. That it is precisely the small production that enhances these oils??
