In this chapter we present one of the best and most typical typical products of the province of Verona, the Tortellini from Valeggio sul Mincio.
The Tortellini from Valeggio sul Mincio are a unique and tasty product, an egg pasta filled with meat, usually pork, chicken, veal and beef. It is one of the most famous traditional first courses of Veronese cuisine, typical of the small Scaliger municipality which is located right on the banks of the Mincio river.
In fact, every year in June the "Love Knot" is celebrated, an anniversary dedicated to the Tortellini from Valeggio held on the Visconteo Bridge set up, for the occasion, with a long table.
The name of the anniversary seems to derive from a legend which narrates that, in 1300, a soldier and a woman in love took refuge at the bottom of the Mincio to escape their enemies, leaving behind them a handkerchief knotted as a symbol of their love. The classic recipes to taste them are the best Tortellini from Valeggio, with broth or with butter and sage.
