In this article we treat the wines of the Veneto region, produced in an area of 78,200 hectares, between mountains, hills and plains and with a production of 8,989,000 hectoliters of excellent wine, which qualifies as the largest and most productive wine region of Italy.
It all started with the Venetians who undertook the first cultivations of the vine, but to expand the whole production were the Romans, whose fame of the Rhaetian wines of the Euganean Hills of the Vicenza area was not slow to spread in Europe, and after a small period of decline, was the same bishop of Verona, in his homilies, to invite the faithful not to abandon the vineyards.
But viticulture thrived under the Republic of Venice, which reached the highest levels in the sixteenth century.
These vines, of great versatility, produce different types of DOC wine, such as dry, sweet, still or sparkling wines, thanks to all this, the wines of the Veneto region and its magnificent territory have been included since 2019 in the list of Humanity by UNESCO.
