The Ortigara Mount

The Ortigara Mount is a mountain of the 2,105 m high Alps located along the border between Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige, in the northern part of the Seven Municipalities Plateau. It is famous and is remembered, above all, for the great battle called precisely "battle of Ortigara Mount".

This conflict lasted between 10 and 29 June 1917 between the Italian army and the Austro-Hungarian army, days in which thousands of Alpini were overwhelmed by the continuous fury of the enemy, so much to generate a human catastrophe of biblical proportions.

The period of the Great War fully affected the entire territory, and the area of Ortigara Mount became another major target of the Austro-Hungarian punitive expedition, called by the Italians Strafexpedition, fought between May 15 and June 27 of 1916, and turned into the scene of a bloody battle that caused thousands of victims.

Not to forget the thousands of fallen, in years of bitter clashes, the Military Shrine of Asiago was built, which together with the Military Shrine of Grappa Mount, the Shrine of Pasubio and the Ossuary of Cimone Mount have become the symbol of the province of Vicenza, as admired in the Vicenza flag.

In addition, a ceremony in memory of all the Fallen is held right at Cima Lozze on the second Sunday of July.
