In this chapter we deal with a territory that lies on the edge of the plateau and hides great treasures, the town of Rotzo.
Rotzo is a small town located on a huge block of rock in the Val d'Assa, and thanks to its location, which places it in a strategic and dominant position compared to the Val d'Astico, it is the oldest municipality in the Asiago plateau. The municipality is located in the western part of the plateau, towards the border with Trentino Alto Adige, separated from the Ossuary of Cimone Mount by the spectacular Astico Valley.
To the north of this modest plateau stands the crown of the Venetian Prealps, of which the Spitz di Rotzo and the Cima Campolongo shine, which descend towards the Val Martello in the territory of Roana, another pretty municipality in the plateau.
During the work of agricultural arrangement, in the hamlet of Castelletto, a settlement of the prehistoric era was found, in a sunny hill, testimony of ancient frequentations on the whole plateau. The findings of the Bostel hill are considered by scholars to be the first inhabited place on the whole plateau, and over time it has proved to be one of the most important archaeological sites in the entire Veneto region.
Today it is promoted by the province of Vicenza, and offers numerous tourist itineraries, which allow you to retrace the stories of the ancient pre-Roman populations. The main attraction is an educational reconstruction of an Iron Age home, in a reality that was dedicated to sheep farming, forestry and agriculture, in a godsend between the thirteenth and second centuries BC.
Also to visit between the town of Rotzo and the hamlet of Castelletto we find the church of Santa Margherita di Antiochia, the saint of the Cimbri, and which according to these traditions, it is the oldest church on the plateau, dating back to the tenth century. In the center of the town of Rotzo we can admire the church of Santa Gertrude, which houses the notarial deed relating to the purchase of possessions by the cruel Ezzelino III di Romano, dated 1250.
