Furthermore, it is well known throughout the world for the production and processing of marble, so much so that over time a "Marble School" has also been opened for young people in the area. In previous centuries, only in the center of Verona were the Ambrosian marble of these valleys made the Roman Theater, the Amphitheater, the Stone Bridge and the Fountain of the Madonna in Erbe Sqaure.
A marble so famous and renowned, that even the Lombard masters moved to these areas for the research and purchase of precious local stones, leaving a small church dedicated to Sant Ambrogio in these parts, from where the country, which still bears its name.
Among the many attractions to visit in the valleys of Sant Ambrogio di Valpolicella we find the mysterious village of San Giorgio, with the Pieve di San Giorgio Ingannapolton, which despite looking very close from the plain, was once reachable only through a hard and challenging.
According to tradition it is said that it dates back to the Middle Ages, when the word "poltron" meant lazy, and later, it was jokingly added to the toponym of San Giorgio in Ganna, where Ganna would simply mean pile of stones.
On the top of the Poia hill we find the small church of San Zeno in Poia, immersed in a group of cypresses in a particularly peaceful place. Also in the area we can admire Villa Serego, located in the locality of Santa Sofia di Pedemonte, in fact it is also called Villa Santa Sofia, it is one of the spectacular Venetian villas designed by the great architect Andrea Palladio in 1565, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
