The Great Theater La Fenice is located west of San Marco Square, in a labyrinth of alleyways and fields to be explored, where you can find quaint shops, Italian high fashion shops and several excellent restaurants.
Great Theater La Fenice
At the center of the district we find Campo San Fantin, which overlooks the Renaissance church of the same name and the La Fenice Theater, the main opera house in Venezia.
In the nineteenth century, this theater was the site of numerous world premieres, such as the works of Gioachino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini, Gaetano Donizetti and Giuseppe Verdi. Great exponents of the twentieth century passed here are Igor Stravinskij, Benjamin Britten, Sergej Prokofiev, Bruno Maderna, Luigi Nono, Mauricio Kagel, Luca Mosca, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Adriano Guarnieri and Claudio Ambrosini.
Now, despite having been destroyed by two fires, it is beautifully restored and represents the seat of important opera, symphonic seasons and the International Festival of Contemporary Music.
