The Tintoretto House is in fifteenth-century Gothic style, and is located in the foundations of the Moors, in the Cannaregio district, among the most beautiful in Venice.
The Tintoretto House
It is one of those places not to be missed, because this characteristic house, still of high value, retains its charm of the past. Not far from the door we find a marble statue, which represents Hercules with the club in his hand, set in the building by the famous painter himself.
On the first floor there is a characteristic three-light window and windows framed by a splendid cordon frame. On the other hand, on the left side of the facade there is a statue of an Arab, which enriches the foundations and the Campo dei Mori together with four tall similar figures.
Jacopo Robusti, or better known as Tintoretto was born in this house on April 29, 1519 and was one of the greatest exponents of the Venetian school and probably the last great Renaissance painter, he lived all his life in Canneregio, until his death on 31 May 1594.
The nickname "Tintoretto" derived from the profession of his father, a dyer of silk and fabrics, with which he will become famous all over the world. Devoted Christian, he developed an individual and theatrical style, characterized by an even exaggerated use of light and movement, by the audacity of the perspectives, and by fluid and energetic brush strokes.
A plaque placed on the facade says:
DO NOT IGNORE, VANDANT, THE ANCIENT HOUSE OF JACOPO ROBUSTI SAID THE TINTORETTO.
