Montebelluna is a world-class agricultural, commercial and industrial center located in the heart of the province of Treviso. It is located along Via Postumia, a Roman consular road built in 148 BC. from the Roman consul Postumio Albino, whose purpose was to join the main Roman ports of northern Italy, Aquileia and Genoa.
The Montebelluna
Among the monuments we remember the Duomo dell'Immacolata Concezione, a grandiose building built in neo-gothic style around 1908 which is the main place of worship in the city and the church of Santa Maria in Colle.
The latter is an ancient prepositural church which, to date, is stripped of the Baroque altars because they have been transported to the new cathedral, despite the fact that it preserves in the large ceiling La Gloria del Paradiso, a fresco by Francesco Fontebasso.
In addition, the Church of Santi Lucia e Vittore, an eighteenth-century building that houses the first work of Gian Battista Tiepolo, the Virgin and Glory of Saints Lucia and Vittore, from around 1716. The Montebelluna territory is particularly flat, totally included within the Po Valley, one of the largest in all of Europe.
Not too far away is Montello, a unique hill of its kind that stretches from the Piave river to Nervesa della Battaglia, from Crocetta del Montello to Montebelluna. Its origin is linked to the orogenesis process of the Alps. These mountains, in fact, were formed and continue to grow following the movement of the European and Asian continental crust and, Montello with its dynamics, follows this phenomenon, although the its growth has been slowed down due to the Piave river, which has always continued to smooth it.
