In this chapter we discuss one of the most beautiful trips in the Dolomites, a path that will leave you speechless, the Sorapiss Lake Excursion.
The Sorapiss Lake Excursion or to the Rifugio Valdelli is one of those things to do sooner or later in life, the spectacular nature of the path and the magic of Lake Sorapiss will leave you speechless. The Alfonso Vandelli refuge, 1926 meters, is located in a spectacular position, right in the center of the imposing natural amphitheater of the north side of the Sorapiss Group where, among all, Punta Sorapiss stands out with its 3205 meters.
The car is parked at the top of the Passo Tre Croci where, since there is no parking area used, one must invent one along the road; given the situation, it is therefore advisable to arrive early in the morning and avoid the most chaotic days of the summer holidays.
We walk along the CAI 215 path and the first stretch is wide and peaceful. Then you reach a gentle slope, which will continue for about an hour, giving you the opportunity to admire the Cristallo Group and the Cadini di Misurina. With the first demanding altitude difference, the most difficult part of the route begins, in fact some short sections equipped with a metal cord and some stairs will be positioned to more easily overcome fairly demanding gradients.
There are no real difficulties, so the via ferrata set is not needed, however it can impress the exposure of some vertical sections; in any case, a minimum of caution and concentration is needed, since the mountain should not be treated superficially. The excursion is suitable for anyone, the route is always very popular with people walking and also with families with children. Pay attention to the ice that forms during the colder periods. We recommend a calm pace to enjoy the wonderful landscape that will surround you.
