The Mount Cimone Ossuary is located in the municipality of Tonezza del Cimone, in the homonymous Mount Cimone, in the province of Vicenza. Like all the pre-Alps in the upper Vicenza area, Cimone was the last bulwark against the advancement of Austrian troops during the 1916 expedition.

These areas were particularly disturbed on September 23, 1916 at 5:45 am, when a terrifying explosion of an Austro-Hungarian 14,200 kg mine killed the entire Sele Brigade, of the 136 Digger Company of the 630 Battalion of Engineers, with its 10 officers and 1119 soldiers.

Even today the effect of that explosion is evident when looking at the valley in front of the steps of the Mount Cimone Ossuary. The complex stands on the top at 1,226 meters, partly using the crater caused by the mine and some remains.

The sacellum is square in shape, with large stairways leading up from the four sides to the center, where a large stone, created by the strong explosion, comes to protect the floor that houses the remains of Italian soldiers and as an altar.

The Ossuary was built on Thom Cevese's project, inaugurated in September 1929 at the presentation of Prince Umberto di Savoia. On one side a plaque shows; "Buried by an enemy mine, a thousand children of Italy sleep here." The Mount Cimone Ossuary, the Ossuary of Pasubio, the military Shrine of Mount Grappa and the Military Shrine of Asiago appear in one of the four paintings on the coat of arms of the province of Vicenza.
