The Coldai Lake Excursion

The Coldai Lake Excursion is one of the most beautiful trips to do in the Dolomites, a World Heritage Site, in a magical and well-equipped place, thanks to the many investments made in the area. We are in the spectacular Civetta Group, above the famous lake of Alleghe, in the dolomites of Zoldo, in the province of Belluno. This imposing mountain group is also famous for the "Wall of the Walls" or also called as the realm of the sixth degree, in fact with its 1,200 meters of altitude, it attracts enthusiasts from all over the world to climb.

Despite this, today Civetta Mount has become an ideal destination for any sportsman, in fact there is no shortage of paths for trekking and mountain biking, slopes on skiing and snowbording, or characteristic refuges to savor some typical dishes of the area. The Coldai lake Excursion starts from Col dei Baldi, reachable either on foot through the ski slopes or with the cable car in a few minutes. The car can be left either in Alleghe, along the shores of the lake, or halfway on the Piani di Pezzè, in any case both car parks are subject to charges.

From Col dei Baldi 1,922 meters the panorama is breathtaking, ranging from the Marmolada to the Val Fiorentina, from the Nuvolau Group to those of the Pelmo. We follow the dirt road downhill, (it should be the CAI 564 path) but there are no information signs, until we reach a Casera Pioda at 1,816 meters.

Here begins the small CAI 556 path that climbs towards the Coldai refuge at 2,132 meters between the large boulders of the Civetta parade. A little further on, the panorama opens, and at the bottom of a small valley the wonderful Lake Coldai emerges, surrounded by green meadows and pretty pebble beaches, an ideal place to relax and enjoy a well-deserved lunch.

The excursion is suitable for anyone, the route is always very popular with people walking and also with families with children. Pay attention to the ice that forms during the colder periods. We recommend a calm pace, to enjoy the wonderful landscape that will surround you.
