The Lagazuoi rifugio Excursion is among the most important and evocative of the Dolomites, in fact, in addition to the breathtaking landscapes, it still retains many structures built by Italian soldiers during the Great War. Lagazuoi is a mountain that is part of the Fanis Group, a mountainous massif located between the province of Belluno and that of Trento.

This giant is made up of two main reliefs, called respectively 2,778 meters Piccolo Lagazuoi and 2,835 meters Grande Lagazuoi. These areas were the scene of bitter clashes between Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops during the First World War, complex networks of tunnels and tunnels were built inside the Piccolo Lagazioi, in order to blow up the opposing positions.

Above all prevails a tunnel excavated by the Italians of two hundred meters in altitude within this Dolomite massif, in order to reach the Austro-Hungarian position located on the top of the mountain.

The Lagazuoi rifugio excursion does not present particular dangerous situations and can be traveled by everyone. This wide path starts a few steps from the cable car parking, a quick method to reach the refuge in 5 minutes, with the CAI 402 signpost.

Climb without difficulty to the Travenanzes fork at 2,507 meters, where you turn left on the CAI 401 path to the Lagazuoi fork at 2,572 meters and the Lagazuoi refuge at 2,752 meters. From here the panorama is breathtaking, thanks to its panoramic terrace with a view of all the Dolomites, a World Heritage Site. Pay attention to the ice that forms during the colder periods. We recommend a calm pace, to enjoy the wonderful landscape that will surround you.
