Hiking Around Sassolungo and Sassopiatto

Hiking Around Sassolungo and Sassopiatto is a fantastic excursion to one of the most beautiful and crowded places in the Dolomites, a World Heritage Site. This route is located in the province of Bolzano, and therefore we should not mention it, given the objective of this site, but for me the beauty and enhancement of the territory counts, rather than dwelling on the borders.

In any case, the Sella Group is an impressive mountain group that crosses the provinces of Belluno, Trento and Bolzano in the Dolomites of Gardena and Fassa. The excursion begins at the Passo Sella at 2,179 meters, here we can leave the car in the paid parking.

Climb in the direction of Rifugio Salei at 2,225 meters and continue towards the Friedrich August Rifugio at 2,298 meters on the CAI 557 trail sign, along a mostly flat and very crowded path.

Continue to the Sandro Pertini Rifugio at 2,300 meters, then continue to the Sassopiatto Rifugio at 2,300 meters and along the CAI 527 and CAI 526 path through rather landslide reddish rocks until you reach Piz Ciauòlonch, you pass through a maze of boulders up to a pool of water and the Comici Rifugio at 2,154 meters. Always along the CAI 526 path, you cross green pastures and small Swiss pine forests, up to Città dei Sassi and a little further on, the parking of the Sella pass.

The excursion is suitable for anyone, the route is always very popular with people walking and also with families with children. Pay attention to the ice that forms during the colder periods. We recommend a calm pace, to enjoy the wonderful landscape that will surround you.
