In this chapter we treat one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities of Valbelluna, do not miss the fascinating Feltre.

Feltre, situated between the Piave river and the Dolomites, is a pretty walled city divided into two parts: the old part clinging to the hill with the walls and the modern part that, despite the numerous buildings of the 1500s, has become the center of the commercial and industrial life of the city.

Feltre

The Feltre Castle stands out on the Colle delle Capre, known as the Castle of Alboino, built in the 6th century by the Lombards on the remains of a Roman lookout tower. The city was repeatedly at odds with that of Treviso and, as in other towns, it was dominated by Ezzelino III da Romano, later that of the Scaligeri, until 1404, who became part of the Republic of Venice remaining under his dominion until 1797.

What remains of the original complex is very little, because many of its parts have been incorporated into neighboring buildings at various times and several rooms have been decorated with frescoes.

Do not miss the "Palio di Feltre", of fifteenth-century origin, which is an event that takes place every year on the first weekend of August, with the aim of remembering the entrance of the city of Feltre in the Republic of Venice.

Feltre

During the event, the four districts of the city, namely Castello, Duomo, Port'Oria and Santo Stefano, disputed each other the possession of the fifteen gold ducats sewn on a drape of author, which will remain to the winner as symbol of victory.

Feltre

All this is divided into four characteristic races: relay race, archery, tug of war and equestrian race or race of the runners. The festivities begin on Friday evening with dinners in the neighborhoods that gather hundreds of diners in the streets and squares.
