In this chapter we discuss a suggestive and historic mountain route, which winds through the peaks of the Seven Municipalities Plateau, the Interrotto Fort Excursion.
The Interrotto Fort Excursion, also called the defensive barracks at Mount Interrotto, is a pleasant and suggestive walk that winds through the places of the Great War of the Asiago plateau, in the province of Vicenza. The fort is located above the town of Camporovere, one of the six hamlets of the municipality of Roana.
The barracks was completely walled and equipped with a drawbridge; the main objective, in fact, was to separate the walls as much as possible from the riflemen's shooting range, to prevent the Austrians, once close, from using the slits to fire or throw bombs inside the fort.
To start this walk you have two possibilities: the first is to park the car in the square in Camporovere (travel time 1.20 h), the second, however, is to go up a few turns along via Monte Interrotto and park on the edge of the forest ( journey time end of asphalt 45 min).
Whatever your choice, the path begins among the green pasture meadows, from which you can enjoy a wide and fascinating glimpse of the Asiago plain. Then continue along the dirt road which, through large and dense woods, leads to the fort which rises just below the top of Mount Interrotto at an altitude of 1400 meters. For those who are more trained or more curious, the path continues through dense spruce woods to the Cemeteries of the Mòsciagh of the First World War, (journey time 45 min).
This is an old military path, easy to undertake, which leads to the cemeteries of the Austro-Hungarian army, where 1142 soldiers are buried. The excursion is suitable for anyone, the route is quite popular with strolling people and families, thanks also to the well-kept road surface. Pay attention to the ice that forms during the winter. We recommend a quiet pace to enjoy the wonderful landscape that will surround you.
