Hiking Around Tre Cime di Lavaredo

The hiking around Tre Cime di Lavaredo is undoubtedly the most loved, most popular and most beautiful tour of all the Dolomites, a World Heritage Site. In fact, the route is fairly flat, especially in the first part, it offers a panorama as far as the eye can see and along the way there are suggestive refuges that serve typical local dishes. The Tre Cime di Lavaredo are part of the Sesto mountain range, located between the provinces of Belluno and Bolzano, and thanks to their majesty, they have become one of the symbols of the Dolomites.

Their shape is certainly important, harmonically aligned, they almost resemble three fingers pointing towards the sky, thus offering many tourists a natural spectacle of shapes and colors. The Tre Cime are made up of the 2,857 meters Cima Piccola, the 2,973 meters Cima Ovest and the Cima Grande, the central one, of 3,003 meters. Between 1915 and 1917 these peaks formed the front of the Great War, the remains of trenches, tunnels, equipped paths and barracks on the massif and on the nearby Paterno Mount still remain evident.

This spectacular route can be reached from Lake Misurina, following the paved road that leads to the Auronzo Rifugio, where we find a large paid parking lot. From here begins the walk on the CAI 101 path, well laid out and level, after a few minutes we find the small church dedicated to Our Lady Help of Christians and a little further on the Lavaredo Rifugio at 2,344 meters.

Continue, through the Lavaredo fork 2,454 meters until you reach the Locatelli Rifugio 2,405 meters in a slightly challenging climb and descent. From here you can admire the incredible north face of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, whose view will keep you company until the end of the excursion.

Take the CAI 105 path again, which becomes narrower and more demanding, pass the Forcella Col di Mezzo at 2,315 meters and return to the parking area of the Auronzo Rifugio at 2,330 meters. The excursion is suitable for anyone, the route is always very popular with people walking and also with families with children. Pay attention to the ice that forms during the colder periods.
