In this chapter we discuss one of the most developed, curious and lively cities in the Valle del fiume Agno and in the Vicenza area, Valdagno.
Valdagno is an enterprising city located among the green hills of the Vicenza foothills, near the thermal area of Recoaro Terme. Despite being surrounded by greenery, between the hills of Malo Mount and the Piccole Dolomites, a step away from the Lessinia Natural Regional Park, it is an area characterized by many factories, in fact it is considered among the most important industrialized areas in Italy .
Valdagno extends along the course of the Agno stream, which influenced both the origins and the development of the inhabited center, increasing industrial activities and providing its inhabitants with water. In addition, this green valley oriented from west to east strongly affects the mild climate of these lands, thanks to the crossing of winds and air currents from the Adriatic Sea.
It is very probable, therefore, that the name of the Agno stream may derive from "ogno", which in Celtic language indicates the ram, the horned God of the Celts. So, over time and the advent of Christianity, this particular mythological figure turned into a lamb in the Christian era, so much so that it is also found in the symbol of Valdagno and in the patron saint San Clemente.
During the Republic of Venice, a period of great artisanal development of iron and wool began for this city, which contributed to consolidating the economy, so much so that in the eighteenth century the first factories for the processing of wool and silk were built. Later, in 1836, the Marzotto family started a real industrial activity.
