Its charm derives in part from its proportions and, in part, from the joyful atmosphere cheered by the fruit and vegetable stalls, from the bars and cafes that offer a glimpse of the daily confusion that once characterized every field in the city.
The Santa Maria Formosa Church, founded in the seventh century, was the first church in Venice dedicated to the Virgin Mary and, it represents, the largest and most unusual treasure of this place, thanks to its two main facades, arranged one on the field and the other on the canal.
According to legend, Our Lady appeared in San Magno in the guise of a beautiful and shapely woman, asking him to build a church on the place indicated by her, hence the name. Inside we find a polyptych by Jacopo Palma il Vecchio depicting Santa Barbara, considered one of the best works of the artist and the valuable painting by Bartolomeo Vivarini, the " Triptych of the Madonna della Misericordia".
