The charm of Cittadella arises from its walls and go beyond the personality of its particularly proud and enterprising people.  The amazing city wall built by the inhabitants of Padua between 1220 and 1221: it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful medieval fortifications in Europe.

The defensive system was born as a bastion to control the border areas after the threats advanced by rivals Vicenza and Treviso to conquer new territories.

In fact, when the latter around 1195 started the construction of Castelfranco Veneto, as a military outpost near the torrent Muson, the inhabitants of Padua replied with the construction of Cittadella.

Very interesting and evocative is the walkway on the walls that starts from "Porta Bassano", in which a recent restoration has given light to the frescoes that decorate the Casa of Capitano, and which allows you to arrive, walking through the 12 towers, to Porta Vicenza, to Porta Padova and then to Tower of Malta which houses the Archaeological Museum.

The Cittadella Cathedral will look majestic in front of you in its sober elegant lines that characterize it, the vastness of the interior is enriched by works which mostly date back to nineteenth-century, but if you want to immerse yourself in the medieval frescoes of the old Cathedral, you don’t have to miss the Cappella della Concetta from a side door on the right.

The events not to be missed are; the Historical Re-enactment, set in the XIII century, in one of the most splendid periods of the town. In these days of late September, numerous events will be present in the squares and streets of the city such as: historical games, medieval markets, encampments, historical archery, musicians and jesters. It ends with the famous torchlight procession, the fireworks and the burning of the Castle.

Another expected appointment is the Franca di Cittadella Fair, at the end of October, where the streets are filled with stalls with typical products, local crafts and food and wine stands that cannot be missed. Event that until a few years ago was used for the sale of cattle, also set up inside the historic center, today, however, this particular event is held in an industrial area, not far from Cittadella.
