In this chapter we discuss one of the most characteristic, wildest and most incredible areas of the Dolomites, the Bosconero Group.
The Bosconero Group, located in the province of Belluno, is one of the mountainous groups of the Zoldo Dolomites, has an almost triangular shape and is composed of rocks formed by dolomites with marls and limestone of different colors. In particular it is located between the lower Val Zoldana, Val Cervegana and the Piave Valley and is famous for its steep valleys thickly covered by mountain pine, coniferous and beech woods.
The imposing Dolomitica rock tower, clearly visible from Forno di Zoldo, is the 2,468-meter Sasso di Bosconero, the highest peak in the whole group. Among the most known and popular peaks we find the Sassolungo di Cibiana of 2,413 meters, the Sfornioi of 2425 meters, the Sasso di Toanella of 2,430 meters and the Rocchetta Alta of 2,412 meters.
The Bosconero Group is a little-known and popular mountain group, compared to the more well-known Dolomite giants of the Ampano area. In fact, this wild territory has only for some years become a destination for mountain enthusiasts and hikers.
Dark and mysterious place, thanks also to the characteristics of the impervious mountain and the imagination of the locals. Often these lands, in fact, are frequented only by hunters and lumberjacks.
The few abandoned huts and consequently the few pastures have contributed to the charm of these mysterious valleys. Walking through the dense, wet and dark woods, we immerse ourselves in a fairytale and fascinating path, until we reach the Lake of the Witches, which is located near the Fountain of Eternal Youth.
Immersed in green valleys, small lakes and large expanses of woods, the Zoldo Dolomites.
A totally mountain area, embroidered by incredible valleys and well-kept villages.
